On the shores of lake brownwood, a 73,000 surface area lake that filled by a record breaking flood in 1932 before its dam was even finished, sits Brownwood State Park. Built in 1934, mostly by workers in the Civilian Conservation corps, the park still houses many of the original buildings. outdoor Patios, benches, and a recreation hall and adjoining dance pavilion with rooftop observation deck. The park is home to plenty of fishing & boating, nearly six miles of hiking trails, and camping sites ranging from tent sites with water only, to full hook ups. There are cabins available for 2-4 people, and even a lodge for up to 26 people. Most trails are hiking only, but you can bike the almost 3 mile Nopales Ridge Trail. If outdoor sports are you thing, you can take advantage of the volley ball court and softball field. Of course there are plenty of geocaches waiting to be found, so don't forget your gps!
