Abilene State park, just 16 miles southwest of Abilene Texas, is one of our favorite state parks to date. a Beautiful park, with lots of trees from elm, juniper, natural pecan, and Texas red oak . All the trees provide homes for the multitude of birds that like in the park. There is a large lake, and a smaller fishing pond stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish. We found a few geocaches here as well, along the hiking trails that wind throughout the park. IF the summer heat gets to be to much, you can also take a swim in the historic swimming pool, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930's. Camping here is amazing. The sites are well maintained, and spaced apart very nicely. the RV sites have a paved pad to park on, and there is a large group camp site for meet ups.
